Arrival in the land of strawberries and Malaysian cream teas

Another day, another country

Dave and I boarded the night train to KL last night and arrived sleepy but excited in KL at 7:30 this morning.    Dave likes breakfast so we started the day in early morning luxury with all you can eat breakfast at the Hilton.  After a speedy visit to the Petronas towers,a crisis of confidence in the Malaysian post office, we got a train up to Tapah Row before boarding a bus for the highlands.  Great bus driver who talked non stop all the way and beeped every corner as we climbed higher and higher.    Our hotel had promised me a steamboat so I was looking anxiously for the lake... until Dave pointed out a steamboat in this part of the world is steamed vegetables!

Off to bed now as we are mountain climbing, strawberry picking and butterfly spotting tomorrow!

Thai Green Curry in Singapore

laura and I have just finished a Thai green curry and tofu/pak choi combo in Raffles City, having just completed a 3 hour colonial walking tour with a very pro-Brit local.  last night Simmo and Jade took us to a wonderful cocktail overlooking one of the reservoirs and big new casino (marina bay sands).  the jet l got too much for me so  wasnt the best company.

We also spent some time in the pool with Martyn and his family at the condo, hich was lovely. The sun-heated pool was perfectly warm.  i've managed 20 percent of Iain M Banks' Use of Weapons - quite something for someone who barely reads whilst in London.

The facilities for families are great here - it is much better than London, and given the Martyn and Jade can get the girls no more than about 500m from wherever they go on  good day, it really mtter than Singapore have Londond's cultural epth.
Laura's tudying the guidebook - we are aout to ead to tBritish  Memorial, hen n t e botanical park.

Changi sweets

Laura and I landed in Singapore a few minutes ago.  The transit through Brunei speedy, although he terminal building does look like it needs some work.  all those looking like they might be British servicemen (unsurprisingly) did not make the transfer.

Royal Brunei has to be one of the best airlines flown on - ultra-polite staff and decent food / flms and computer games.

On our way over to Simpson Towers now. Simmo is going to be delighted to hear a, on haring of our arrival in Brunei, the King's sibling had te plane hld up wilst he dis family rshed to meet it so they could make the journey to Sngapore with us.

Summary of our Dubai experience

We touched down in Dubai ninety minutes ago, and are about to reboard.

Things to note from our time in Dubai:

1. Starbucks is identical to London
2. Costa Coffee is identical, but at least they go to the effort of writing something n the sign in Arabic
3. The gentlemen's cubicles have shower heads in them, but that does no prevent people washing their feet in the sink

Sleeping wife

So excited about a month away she.....fell asleep

Packing...

Spent yesterday evening working out what to pack and how it would all fit in my bag.  big debate as to whether Smids was right about needing walking bookts. te final decision was that we take them, or look for our mosquito net.

Laura passed out around 2300, whilst got hooked on buying Terry Pratchetts for my Kindle. Good times!

Home tonight to put everything in a bag and make my way over to Gemma's
